Folder Cruiser Lite/Pro
Folder Cruiser: Browsing by Extension
Release Dates
- Shareware - August 19, 2004
- GPL - January 2, 2006
Description
Folder Cruiser puts an icon next to the clock on your computer; when you click on this icon, a user-configurable list of folders is displayed in a menu. When you select one of these items, the folder's contents will be displayed in a new menu. Instead of displaying the contents of a large folder all in one menu, it can instead display a menu grouping the contents into submenus either alphabetically or by file extention.
Comments
Folder Cruiser was essentially a full rewrite and improved version of the TrayNav freeware program that I released on compumatrix.com. This was my first (and only) shareware program, there was a limited free version (Lite) and a paid version (Pro). One of the main technical issues with the development of Folder Cruiser was limitations of the Win32 API for menus. After releasing it I did start working on an improved version where I created my own menu system from scratch, but I never finished it. I did encorporate these types of menus into a similar open source program I started writing for Linux that I just called Cruiser.
Folder Cruiser: Browsing AlphabeticallyWhen I decided to end my foray into shareware software, I made sure to do so responsibly: I released Folder Cruiser Pro under the GPL, and made it available on the website for at least a year afterwards. In addition I posted a statement on the frontbrain website saying that I would be happy to fix bugs and provide support for another year for the handful of people that had supported the project by purchasing a copy.
